how did kmc come about?

The KMC is, in fact, the answer to the rate of mortality in preterm infants are in Bogotá, Colombia, in late 1970. There, the mortality rate for premature babies was 70 percent. The children died of infections, respiratory problems, and simply for lack of attention. The researchers found that children who were detained along with the bodies of their mothers for much of the day have survived, not only, but prospered. In the US, hospitals that encourage kangaroo care usually have their mothers or fathers provide skin to skin contact with their babies premature for several hours every day. However, skin-to-skin is recommended for all children, including newborns at term.

When a mother kangarooing, the child typically snuggles in the chest and falls asleep within minutes. The breasts itself has shown that temperature variation to meet the changing needs of the child's body temperature. In other words, the breast can increase body temperature when the baby is cool and can lower the temperature warms baby. The extra sleep the baby is cuddling with mom and help in regulating body temperature helps the child to save energy and redirects caloric expenditure toward growth and weight gain.
